A list of 41 Chinese enterprises was issued recently by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China (MIIT). The list covers the first passel of approved pilot companies which are authorized to conduct ecological design for national industrial products. TISCO is the only one in Shanxi Province that is presented in the list.

Ecological design is an activity that complies with the concept of Product Life Cycle to take into consideration the environmental impacts of a product in its each stage, including the selection of raw material, the course of production, selling, using, and recycling, and so on; with an aim of, in a life cycle base, minimizing the energy consumption, reducing or eliminating the use of raw materials with poisonous and harmful substance, cutting the generation and emission of pollutants, so as to protect the environment. As an important method to curb and prevent pollution, the ecological design is required to be implemented in enterprises with extended producer responsibility. The enterprises are required to develop and manufacture green and environment-friendly products which can meet the international market demands. They are also required to innovate in green technology and to strengthen global competitiveness.

As a stainless steel producer with worldwide biggest capacity, most advanced equipment and technology, and most complete product specifications, TISCO has been insisting in green development for years. The company, by aids of its technological innovation and management innovation, successfully prevents pollution, sustainably improve environment, and dramatically increase the energy efficiency. It has paved a road to co-exist and harmoniously develop with the city, by choosing green development as its new mode, new growth point and new competitiveness. TISCO has established a sound foundation to do ecological design. For years, the company has aimed at green development, focused on high-end product and green development, implemented green strategy, strengthened the awareness of green development and low carbon concept, produced stainless steel and other green products which are clean, efficient and energy-effective. The company has dedicated to be a global demonstration of green steel factory, which creates value, bears responsibility, enjoys respect, and harmonious co-exists with the city, by means of circular economy, clean production and emission cutting.

Within the pilot schemes, TISCO will put more effort in the R&D of ecological design, form a green industry chain, produce more energy-effective products, which accounts for 85% of total production, and turn green products into the core competitiveness of the company. TISCO will continue to realize a circular economy industry chain, to re-utilize and recycle each and all the solid waste and waste water, and control the discharge according to national emission standard. Besides, the company will accomplish its task of setting up system and platform for ecological design, and lead the development of ecological design for international stainless steel industry.

The government firstly pushes forward the ecological design work in 8 industries, including steel, non-ferrous, petroleum, construction material, machine, electronic, automobile and textile. The state chooses pilot companies to establish demonstrative base, offer favorable policy support, and set up favorable market environment. Besides, the companies are required to conduct experimental design with technological support, “control from the source” awareness, and social responsibility concept. The pilot companies are encouraged to input more investment and resource to conduct ecological design as an important measure to strengthen competitiveness. It is expected to accumulate experience, expand product portfolio, and enrich industrial product ecological design through the pilot companies. The ecological design scheme which combined policy guide and market impetus was primarily worked out at the beginning of this year.
