August 2 saw two rejoicing events in TISCO nuclear steel business: a batch of square stainless tubes was packed up for delivering to its destination, Rongcheng national demonstrative reactor project in Shandong Province. And TISCO stainless steel plate was ordered by Pakistan for its nuclear power plant project. It’s worth mentioning that the tubes for Shandong project was processed with integral forming method, a technology originated in China, and the plates for Pakistan project will witness the first application out of china for this kind of material.
“There is a extreme high requirement on the nuclear power plant steel in both intrinsic property and variety specification. TISCO originally created the C series, L series, U series, T series, H series and rectangular series of stainless steel tubes successively in China in the past years. Today, with the most difficult manufacturing process, the square tubes were created in response to the proper time and conditions,” said Mr. Li Zhibing, the manager of the nuclear power steel business.
China used to import special steel until TISCO was able to produce these material. And now the company sell its products to the World. That was how TISCO made miracles one after another. TISCO won the bid for special stainless steel for the Qinshan Yangtze River bridge in Wuhan city in April this year. It was the first time that this product has been used in the bridge construction. In May, the extruded stainless components developed by TISCO on its own was successfully used on the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor(ITER) ( the man-made -sun ) for the first time in China. In June, a new type of duplex stainless steel originally developed by TISCO was applied on a chemical ship of ten thousand tons. In August, TISCO got NORSOK M-650 certificate for duple stainless steel, another break through following the British CARES certification for duplex stainless steel rebar, and a symbol for TISCO’s special stainless steel stepping into international sea oil and gas market aside from high-end building constructions.
All those achievements are attributed to TISCO’s persistence of innovation drive, aiming at high-end market & newly emerged industries and developing unique sea products with leading technologies. In the first half of this year, while the steel industry was in fluctuation and the steel companies were struggling, TISCO upgraded the steel grades and types, improved the product quality and lowered down the production cost to enhance market competitiveness. Despite less total steel production compared with last year, the outputs of duplex & heat-resistant stainless steel, stainless steel for tanks & boxes, ferritic stainless steel, stainless steel for oil wells and boilers were increased by 42.7%, 82.6%, 40.8% and 54.29% respectively.
TISCO tried all the efforts on the innovation drive. It created new culture that encourages innovation, allows failure and opposes conservatism, encouraged all employees to “be happy with new things, be active to do something new, be the winner by new products”, made up of its shortcomings, and inspired the motive of people; it organized more than 10 teams composed of experts in production, R & D and application to track major steel projects at home and abroad, get involved in the project design engineering ahead of time, actively recommend new material with better performance and lower cost; with the innovation platform constructed by 16 scientific and research labs, a national key lab of advanced stainless steel, the engineering and technology research center for stainless steel of Shanxi Province, and the engineering and technology research center for railway vehicle steel, the company contracted over 30 national and provincial major scientific research programs, enhanced the product designing and experiment on process and technology, improved the lot production capability, developed further the products of advanced, high-precision and cutting-edged.
