TISCO Pioneers Market with New and Superior Products

On January 3, Kang Junzhi, working for TISCO Marketing Department, was answering a call from a famous tube manufacturer of Germany, while checking carefully the information about exported products. Just at the beginning of 2017, came another good news on TISCO’s duplex stainless steel. The product will be used in an international petrochemical project, which is the first time for this product to enter European high-end market in batch and as a kind of material after it was approved by NORSOK M-650, Norwegian National Standards of Petroleum, as a special material. Facing fierce market competition, TISCO sped up its pace in developing high-end products. In last year alone, TISCO had launched more than a dozen of new products one after another which broke the monopoly of foreign products. These new, superior and special products have become sharp weapons to fight the market and defend industry grimness. TISCO gained a profit of RMB 1.29 billion Yuan in 2016 under basically flat steel production.
 
In the middle of November of 2016, the new editions of three national standards on stainless steel, drafted leadingly by TISCO, were put into official implementation, which not only marks TISCO is speeding up the shift from producing iron and steel material to “producing” standards, but also reflects that TISCO has remained in the top position in production and application of stainless steel for many years. The new national standards cover nearly 70% domestic stainless steel output.
 
 “The introduction of a new standard represents an upgrade in an industry. After all, a standard is the embodiment of strength, and a standard is an influence and leading power. The one masters the standards will occupy the “high ground” in market competition,” Li Jianmin, the technical director of STSS, said firmly.
 
TISCO insists on technological innovation as its motive power and promotes its products to be characteristic and high end. A batch of unique and leading high-end products has made their splendid debuts in domestic and overseas markets. Silicon steel is the second strategic variety only after stainless steel. When consolidating traditional markets, TISCO has been keeping an eye closely on the developing trend of new energy automobile. By forming teams of producing, marketing and research, tackling key problems in term of technology and quality in the whole process, TISCO has developed new type silicon steel for driving motors of new energy high-end passenger vehicles, which have been put into massive production and supplied to domestic well-known automobile manufacturers.
 
“The driving motor, as one of the core components for new energy automobile, has extremely high requirements on fabricating material in terms of property and profile. In the past, all the material totally relied on the import. And now, the product we developed independently is equivalent to the same kind of imported product but with higher performances in energy saving and efficiency,” said Zhang Wenkang, chief engineer of cold rolling silicon steel plant of TISCO.
 
TISCO now is accelerating its transformation from conventional field to emerging field. Besides year-on-year market sales growth of 20.6% for silicon steel,  the related growths for stainless steel for automobile exhaust system, stainless steel for tank and case industry, duplex stainless steel, ultra-pure ferrite stainless steel, stainless steel for nuclear power and oriented silicon steel are accordingly 36.7%, 76%, 200%, 35.4%, 51.3% and 107% in 2016. It is learned that the market contribution rate of TISCO’s new products in 2016 was above 70%.
 
With the intense competition in the markets home and abroad, TISCO has been carrying out the strategies of openness and innovation, going global in big steps and becoming the highlight in transformation process. At the beginning of November, 2016, TISCO won the lawsuit in response to Turkey’s stainless steel antidumping case, which inspired a strong reaction in steel industry. Moreover, it is the fifth time for TISCO to win the fight against international trade frictions in recent years.
 
“As a leading company in stainless steel industry, TISCO should undertake the responsibility of  safeguarding legal rights and interests of national stainless steel industry, which is helpful to strengthen TISCO’s international competitiveness,” said Zhang Hao, chief of brand management section of Marketing Department of TISCO.
 
Comparing with “fighting against a lawsuit”, the international cooperation seems much more “peaceful”. TISCO’s 3 series products, i.e. stainless steel, silicon steel and carbon steel, passed on-spot audit of BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards), which makes TISCO the first Chinese stainless steel producer approved by BIS and opens a door for main products of TISCO to Indian and peripheral high-end markets as well. In 2016, stainless steel export was increased by 4.72% year-on-year, featuring multi-channel and multi-field.
 
“To carry out the spirit of the Provincial Party Congress, it is crucial for TISCO to seize the opportunities forced by the markets and the opportunities brought by supply side structure reform. We shall aim accurately at our target, implement strategies comprehensively and make full use of our advantage in process technology, equipment and talents to pour new vitality into the efforts for variety-increasing, quality-improving and brand-making and promote new development,” said Li Xiaobo, the Chairman of the board and Secretary of the Party Committee of TISCO.
