TISCO steel to be applied in the biggest chemical cargo ships

4×49,000 tons chemical cargo ships contracted by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. are to be built with duplex stainless steel produced by TISCO, who had delivered 2,500 tons steel plates for one of the ships. The application of TISCO steel in the four biggest ships in the world, marks the company’s duplex stainless steel technology now ranks among the world’s most advanced level.
 
The material mentioned above is the highest grade duplex stainless steel for shipping building. It requires rigid corrosion resistance, excellent mechanical properties and weldability, less than 5μm roughness for both surfaces, no any scratch for both surfaces, and so on. During the bidding stage, TISCO sales and technical personnel actively communicated with the customer to understand its needs and requirements, and accordingly optimized product process. Besides, rely on the deep processing capability of its bother company Da Ming, TISCO proposed “attentive service” to the customer for manufacturing the components and parts, including drawing splitting, production, deep processing and delivery. Finally, TISCO outperformed global competitors by the consummate solution.
 
The manufacturing of components and parts asks the manufacturer to make raw material into specific size and shape to an extent that the shipbuilder only need to assemble and weld. Due to special structure and extra width for ship plates, dedicated technologies like longitudinal joint welding and post-welding bending are needed. To ensure required accuracy, TISCO and Da Ming collaborate closely and make deliberate organization to each detail of raw material cutting, trimming, welding, bent, welding seam detection, test, and etc. And their unremitting effort is proven to be worthy --- the products are up to standard, and both the shipbuilder and ship owner are satisfied.
 
Duplex stainless steel is praised as “superior” steel by its high strength, good corrosion resistance and excellent weldability. It is widely applied in special architectures, nuclear power, oil and petrochemical, off-shore engineering and other high-end manufacturing fields. The duplex stainless steel is a perfect material for chemical cargo ships, as it is applicable for many kinds of chemicals and remarkably light-weighted due to its high strength. However, as it requires sophisticated technology process, only handful companies in the world out of China could produce it.
 
TISCO is a pioneer in China to develop duplex stainless steel. It produced the first plate in 2007 and achieved certificates from ship classification societies of China, UK, France, America, Germany, and Norway in following years. The product substituted for imported material and filled the blank in Chinese market. In recent years, to adapt to new trends in the market and to meet new demands of users, TISCO further optimized the critical technology, thoroughly solved the purity control problem, and greatly improved geometry and surface of the plate. By now, the quality of TISCO’s duplex stainless steel product has reached the international advanced level and accordingly, the customer’s satisfaction has been dramatically lifted. In 2016, the company made another breakthrough by using its plates in chemical cargo ships of 33,000 tons. It is a milestone for China as it is the first time application in chemical cargo ships of tens of thousands tons. Totally, TISCO has completed the production and delivery of duplex material for 49 chemical cargo ships for customers both home and abroad.
 
A head of TISCO Technology Center states that, the 19th National Congress of CPC has brought forward the initiative that China will strengthen its manufacturing capability and march to the high-end of global value chain. The delivery of duplex for 49,000 tons chemical cargo ship perfectly reflects our progress. And it is an inspired progress. The company will continue its effort and contribute more to build China into a manufacturing power.
