On the morning of October 23, the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge was held in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province. Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, president of the State, and chairman of the Central Military Commission attended the ceremony and announced the official opening of the bridge.
The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge spans the Lingding Sea, connects Hong Kong to the east, and connects Zhuhai and Macau to the west. It is the first large-scale cross-sea traffic project jointly built by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. There is "super innovation" behind "super engineering." The construction of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is extremely difficult, and it took 14 years from design to construction. During the construction of the bridge, new materials, new processes, new equipments, and new technologies emerged one after another. This project saw over 400 patents created, filling blanks in many fields. Among them, the duplex stainless steel reinforced bars independently developed by TISCO successfully replaced the traditional steel and were applied in the construction of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge project, realizing the first batch application of duplex stainless steel in the construction of domestic bridges. This application not only greatly extends the life expectancy of bridge, but also effectively promotes the upgrading of construction materials for China's cross-sea bridges.
The news of the opening of the bridge spreads throughout the steel city. Members of the TISCO production and research team of duplex stainless steel reinforced bars, which has long been looking forward to the opening of the bridge, took a look at the grand opening ceremony of the bridge and listened to the important speech by General Secretary Xi. “As the packaging and delivery of first batch of products, everyone was watching the loaded truck leaving slowly, as if seeing off their daughter married afar. When the production schedule was tense, the factory manager, technicians, and operators were all on the scene around clock. It was really hard. Now the bridge is open to traffic, and I’m very excited. At present, our factory is implementing the upgrading projects. In the future, we will be able to produce better quality products and win glory for the country.” Yan Shicai, member of R&D team of duplex stainless steel reinforced bars, chief of production&technology division of stainless steel wire mill, said.
