Recently, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as H&Z) sent a thank-you letter to TISCO. While the 49,000-ton chemical ship was successfully built and delivered by H&Z, the shipbuilder thanked TISCO for supplying the high-quality duplex stainless steel plate. The letter said that TISCO has been keeping a close eye on the development direction of advanced technology in the world, concentrating its superior forces and organizing technical research teams to thoroughly solve the long-term technical problems affecting the quality of duplex stainless steel products, bringing the physical quality of the products to the international level and gaining the approval of ship owners. It expects closer cooperation in the later period.
The 49,000-ton chemical ship belonging to Norway's ODFJELL Group, a world-famous shipping company, is currently the world's largest and most advanced duplex stainless steel chemical ship. The steel material for the ship's core component storage tank is the highest steel grade in the world at present. Apart from strict requirements on corrosion resistance, mechanics properties and welding properties, both the upper and lower surface roughness are required to be within 5μm, and scratches are not allowed on both sides of the steel plate.
Since 2017, TISCO's marketing and technical personnel had started to continuously track the project. At the very beginning, the Norwegian ship owner was cautious about materials made in China and required the shipbuilder to use imported steel. Under such circumstances, TISCO conducted many in-depth exchanges with ship owner and ship builder. Based on a clear understanding of customer’s detailed needs, TISCO made customized optimization and improvement to the product process plan, further effectively ensuring the quality stability that ship owner was most concerned about. TISCO also proposed to provide customers with "housekeeping" type deep processing supporting services for the whole process of "disassembly of drawings, production, processing and distribution" with the help of the extended processing advantages of Daming Heavy Industry under Daming International. Thanks to the joint efforts of all parties, the concerns of the ship owner were finally eliminated and they agreed to use TISCO steel. In July 2017, TISCO won the fierce competition with other top international enterprises, and signed four contracts with H&Z for the supply of 49,000-ton chemical marine duplex stainless steel. In August 2018, H&Z again signed two contracts with TISCO for the supply of 38,000-ton chemical marine duplex stainless steel. So far, 15,000 tons of duplex stainless steel materials for the 6 chemical ships have all been delivered. Excellent product quality and perfect solutions have been fully recognized by ship owners.
TISCO is the first enterprise in China to develop and produce duplex stainless steel. In 2007, TISCO produced China’s first duplex stainless steel plate for chemical ship use, successfully replacing imports and filling the market gap. Over the past ten and more years, TISCO has completed the production and supply of material for 49 chemical ships for domestic and foreign ship owners. TISCO's head of research and development of duplex stainless steel said that due to the different hull structures, the requirements of super-large chemical ships on material technology are dramatically increased compared with regular ships. In 2016, TISCO's duplex stainless steel was successfully used for the first time in the construction of a 33,000-ton chemical ship, which is a milestone in the development of domestic duplex stainless steel material. This time, its application to a 49,000-ton chemical ship fully demonstrates that TISCO is well-matched to other international advanced enterprises in terms of technological level and physical quality of duplex stainless steel. In the next step, the company will continue to keep a close eye on the development trend of advanced steel materials and continuously develop new products to provide strong support for the construction of a powerful manufacturing country.
