Under the joint witness of the leaders of China and Russia, the eastern China-Russia natural gas pipeline was put into operation on December 2. Up to now, TISCO has provided 240,000 tons of hot rolled coils for high-grade pipelines to the project, exceeding 1/3 of the amount of total hot rolled coil required, becoming the largest domestic supplier of this material.
The China-Russian Eastern Route Natural Gas Project is a landmark project of energy cooperation, representing deep accommodation and win-win cooperation between the two countries. The NG pipeline starts from eastern Siberia, Russia, and enters Heihe River in Heilongjiang Province of China from Bragoveshchensk, ending in Shanghai, passing through 9 provinces and cities. The total length of pipelines is consisted of 3,000 kilometers in Russia, 3,371 kilometers of new built pipelines in China, and 1,740 kilometers of existing pipelines in China. In the next 30 years, Russia will supply 1 trillion cubic meters of natural gas to China through the pipelines. The implementation of this project will transform Russia's resource advantages into economic advantages, further improve China's energy structure, promote the economic and social development of the regions along the Sino-Russian border, push forward the diversification of the energy strategies of the two countries, ensure the energy security of the two countries, and will have a positive impact on the global energy cooperation pattern.
As the world's longest large-diameter and high-pressure "gas transmission pipeline", the China-Russian Eastern Route Natural Gas Project will not only pass through such geographical features as swamps, mountains, seismically active areas and permafrost areas, but also face extreme cold temperature as low as minus 62 degrees Celsius. Therefore, spiral welded pipes with large wall thickness, high steel grade and low temperature resistance should be adopted. It puts forward high requirements for the materials used in the manufacture of pipelines. Since 2015, TISCO has been actively engaged in all-round docking with the project owner, design institute and manufacturing plant to promptly understand the project progress and project requirements, and to carry out targeted product upgrade tests and trial production of new products. During this period, the research and development team has successively overcome the problems of poor stability and large dispersion of low-temperature drop hammer tearing performance of ultra-thick high-grade pipeline steel, realized the best matching of strength and toughness of hot rolled plate coil, effectively improved the appearance quality defects of traditional high-grade pipeline steel such as sickle bend, tower shape, etc., and eliminated major safety hazards such as loose winding and rewinding. The product has been identified by domestic experts and inspected by many large-scale pipe-making enterprises affiliated to PetroChina. The product quality is proved to be at the industry benchmark level. The successful R&D of thick-walled X80 high-grade pipeline steel for the NG project at Taiyuan Iron and Steel (Group) Co., Ltd. has not only effectively ensured the requirements of the project schedule, but also made positive contributions to the construction of major national energy channels.
Over the years, TISCO has always positioned high strength and toughness and high grade pipeline steel as one of the important strategic varieties. As early as 2007, the company took the lead in the development of conventional X80 pipeline steel and became one of the earliest and biggest suppliers of X80 pipeline steel to the Second West-East Gas Pipeline Project of China. In 2008, TISCO successfully trial-produced the world's highest grade X120 pipeline steel, becoming the first enterprise in the world to realize trial production of X120 pipeline steel coil. TISCO pipeline steel has been successfully applied to major domestic and foreign projects such as the West-East Gas Pipeline, the Central Asia Pipeline, the China-Myanmar Pipeline, the Canada-North America Pipeline, the Kuwait Oil Pipeline, the "Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline Project" jointly built by Azerbaijan and Turkey, and the Saudi Aramco Oil Pipeline. It is obvious that the company has become the main supplier of high-grade pipeline steel in the world.
