TISCO started to deliver its stainless steel products to Shanghai GM after the material for automobile exhaust system was approved by the latter. The company is expanding its market by being accepted by one more international first class automotive producer, following Mercedes-benz, BMW, Toyota, and etc. At present, TISCO automotive exhaust system stainless steel accounts for the biggest market share in China. It is also one of the biggest suppliers for such materials in the world.

The car exhaust system is composed of the hot end part and the cold end part. The former, which is connected with the motor, requires excellent heat resistance; while the latter, which is connected with the exhaust purifier, requires extreme corrosion resistance against condensate liquid. TISCO started the development of stainless steel for automotive exhaust system as early as in 1999. It is the first company that launched the product of ultra-low carbon ferrite stainless steel. In the year of 2004, the company successfully developed super pure ferrite stainless steel, which met the market demands for high grade cold end parts. In 2007, the company’s stainless steel for automobile exhaust system was approved by the certificate “16949”, an international quality system standard widely accepted by global automotive industry, and therefore got orders from worldwide well-known car makers like Mercedes-benz, BMW, and Toyota.

GM is famed in automotive industry for its extremely strict requirements in terms of technologies and materials. Back in 2017, TISCO and GM reached an agreement for tailored new stainless steel material. After two years effort, TISCO Technology Center, supported by other related units, finally designed and trial produced a suitable material that meet the composition requirements raised by GM. The product is accepted by GM after tests proves it not only is up to the standard of emission and lifetime, but also meet GM’s economical expectation. This move also enables and encourages TISCO to explore a bigger development in field of stainless steel for automotive exhaust system. In September of 2019, TISCO set up a joint lab for automotive stainless steel with Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Tenneco Exhaust System Co., Ltd., with a goal of promoting the R&D and upgrade of new stainless steel material for car exhaust systems.

As a key research and development base and production base for stainless steel in China, TISCO has always committed to meet the market demands and customer requirements. With increasingly strict environment requirement, car makers are paying more attention to the manufacturing technologies and materials of exhaust system. TISCO has never stopped exploring new processes technologies or improving product quality in recent years. The company also strengthened its technical service by signing personalized technical agreements with different car makers and parts producers, which has sufficiently meet customers’ requirements and greatly improve customer satisfaction. In 2019, over 300,000 tons of stainless steel for automotive exhaust system was developed by TISCO.
