No.5 unit of Fuqing Nuclear station, as the first demonstrative reactor applied Hualong One technology, a home-grown 3rd generation nuclear technology, saw significant success in water-seal tests for its passive cavity injection tank. The event facilitates the realization of material charging and other milestones in the reactor project, in which all the overlay stainless steel are supplied by TISCO, the sole producer in China that is capable of meeting all the specifications and requirements raised by the project.
Cooling ponds play significant roles in nuclear stations as they take the functions on transmission of waste heat, emergency cooling, and radiation shield and so on. Beyond cavity tank and fuel building tank equipped in two and half generation reactors, Hualong One supplements four additional ponds, namely built-in refueling water tank, auxiliary feeding tank, passive heat export tank, and passive cavity feeding tank. Stainless steel are used in all those tanks as a last defense wall to prevent the leakage of radiative liquid. The special application raises strict requirements on material purity, corrosion resistance, and thickness. To minimize welding seams and to maximize lifetime, cold rolled stainless steel plate with thickness of 6mm and width of 1500mm are used in this project.
As one of the pioneers who started the research and development of nuclear steel in an earlier time in China, TISCO integrated market demands and its superiorities in production facility and technology, designed and developed wide and thick cold rolled plate with high purity, excellent brightness and few welding seams. The width up to 2000mm and thickness up to 6mm make TISCO products standing out among other plates. The company has totally delivered more than 1,600 tons steel plates to No.5 and No.6 units of Fuqing nuclear station. TISCO products are enjoying deserved fame by being applied exclusively in all reactors of the same type in China.
