TISCO led program of “steel for railway vehicles’ key parts for extreme environment”, part of the national key R&D schemes, recently accepted the mid-term inspection conducted by Hi-tech Research and Development Center (the Center) of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China. It is a special inspection dedicated for “technology upgrade and commercialization of important fundamental material”.

Officials from the Center, members of expert team, and related personnel from 15 program participant units, including China Academy of Railway Science, Central Iron & Steel Research Institute, University of Science and Technology in Beijing, Angang Steel Co., Ltd. and so on, attended the inspection meeting.

The head of the program delivered a report to the expert team, briefing the progress and achievement in aspects of fundamental research, key technology development, evaluation and standardization. After hearing the report, reviewing a 3rd party test report, watching a video of a demonstrative production line, the experts reached a consensus that the program conforms to related requirements and specification under the effective leadership of TISCO and sincere cooperation of all the participants. The experts team fully affirmed TISCO’s significant role in the program execution, and gave constructive advices in terms of following-up plan, the level and novelty of research achievements, talent cultivation and organization management.

The program of “steel for railway vehicles’ key parts for extreme environment” focuses on research of composition, microstructure and metallurgical control mechanism of high speed railway axle steel for low-temperature ductility and high-cycle fatigue properties, aiming at developing control technologies that are with narrow composition, ultra-low Oxygen content, low segregation, and satisfied densification. It also researches the corrosion resistance property of steel for trains and steel for bogie frames of high-speed railway, aiming at developing technologies for pure melting, casted piece solidification, and micro-structure adjustment. The program also shoulders the mission of standardization and application promotion of the above mentioned three steel grades. Breakthrough progress has been made in fundamental research, know-how technology, evaluation standardization, and product application since the kick-off of the program.
