On December 27th, the press conference of the 6th China Grand Awards for Industry (CGAI) was held in Beijing, and Shanxi Taigang Stainless Steel Precision Strip Company won a project-based prize. This is the second time for the company to be rewarded by CGAI since it won an enterprise-based prize in 2014.

Wide ultra-thin precision stainless steel strip is vividly called "hand-tearable steel" by the public. For a long time, only a few countries in the world can produce it because of its high requirements on thickness, precision, plate shape, surface, performance, as well as complicated process technology and difficult production control. Since 2016, Shanxi Taigang Stainless Steel Precision Strip Company has set up an innovative R&D project team, who repeated experiments and trials with spirit of meticulous craftsmanship, dedication, and cooperation in mind. Following more than 700 test failures, and after overcoming over 170 equipment problems and more than 450 process problems, they finally achieved a series of key technical and manufacturing breakthroughs. The stainless steel precision strip with a thickness of 0.02 mm and a width of 600 mm was successfully produced, and the physical quality of the products reached the international leading level. Therefore, TISCO became the only producer in the world that can realize batch production of wide super-thin precision stainless steel strips. After that, the team continued in development of a new generation of series product for 5G high-end electronics, i.e. precision strips for flexible screen and low-magnetic high-strength ultra-flat materials. The new materials, which represents advanced special alloy rolling technology and stress relief technology, had further promoted the localization of the mask substrate for flexible displays, the upgrading and sustainable development of key materials in the manufacturing field of high-end industries, and the development of a range of major surface deep processing technologies such as superconductivity and micro-pore processing. It leads the development direction of the ultra-thin stainless steel strip of the world and offers significant support to high-end manufacturing sector in China. Today, the project has got 44 national patents, including 13 invention patents. The national standard of "hand tearable steel" is under draft by TISCO.

CGAI, approved and set up by the State Council in 2004, is the highest award in China's industrial field. It is known as the "Oscar" of Chinese industry. The awards are jointly organized and implemented by the China Federation of Industrial Economics and 12 national associations of different sectors. Winners are selected and commended once every two years. The award includes three prizes, i.e. "CGIA Prize", "CGIA Recognition" and "CGIA Nomination". The 6th CGIA is held with purposes of thoroughly implementing the spirit of the 19th National Congress and the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th National Congress, and vigorously commending industrial enterprises and projects that have made outstanding achievements and contributions in building a strong country as their own responsibility, serving the country with industry as their initial aspiration, and that have persisted in self-reliance, upheld the road of innovation and development with Chinese characteristics, green development and new industrialization, and that have led the high-quality development of China's industrial economy. A total of 16 enterprises and 14 projects were awarded CGIA Prize, 12 enterprises and 21 projects were awarded CGIA Recognition, and 14 enterprises and 16 projects were awarded CGIA Nomination.

TISCO will continue to adhere to its strategic development, concentrate on innovation, vigorously promote mode of "basic research --- development of key common technologies --- industrialization and application", and strive to launch more first-time and first-generation products to make greater contributions to Chinese manufacturing.
