On Feb 9th, the high-end cold rolled grain-oriented silicon steel project, a key project under Shanxi Province transformational upgrade strategy, fulfilled its construction of No.3 twenty-high rolling mill and started hot load test, marking a good start of the full project. Mr. Shi Lairun, the general director of equipment, energy and environment of TISCO, attended the hot load test ceremony.
TISCO has a long history and profound technical accumulation in electrical steel production. The first piece of hot rolled silicon steel sheet in China was produced by TISCO in 1954. When time went to 1990s, the company speed up its pace in silicon steel cold rolling technology. It independently developed a non-grain-oriented silicon steel production line and put it into production in 1998, and then upgraded it into a capacity of 350,000 tons years later. In 2014, another new NGO silicon steel CR line with 1 million tons capacity was put into operation. By now, TISCO has been an important cold rolled NOG silicon steel production base in China, forming a series of products with full variety and coating types, excellent electromagnetic properties and high dimensional accuracy.
The high-end cold rolled grain-oriented silicon steel project, as a part of supply-side reform and innovation-driven development strategy, is aiming to optimize product structure and realize high-quality development of material upgrade. The project was kicked off in November of 2019 with a target of building a 160,000 tons low temperature high magnetic GO silicon steel (Hib) production line. The construction is divided into two phases, with the first phase being completed by the end of 2021. The No.3 rolling mill under hot load test currently, with an annual capacity of 80,000 tons of Hib steel, is the first machine being put into running.
The project is expected to strengthen China Baowu’s production capability of high-end electrical steel, as well as offer concrete support to national economy and advanced manufacturing industry.
