The 80mm-thick seamless tube made from TISCO’s duplex stainless steel billets with super big diameter of 570mm drew many industrial attentions in the EPEC Exhibition of Petroleum and Petrochemical Products held in Suzhou on Oct 20th to 22nd.
Duplex stainless steels, due to its high strength and excellent corrosion resistance, are widely applied in petroleum and chemical industries, seawater and waste water treatment industries, oil and gas transmission lines, paper-making and machinery industries, and etc. The thick seamless duplex steel tubes exhibited in EPEC Exhibition 2021 were jointly developed by TISCO and a domestic pipe producer and were to be applied mainly in offshore oil platform projects.
Back in March, the Chinese pipe producer consulted TISCO Marketing Center for the supplying of duplex stainless steel tube billets with super diameter of 570mm. With broad application but complicated manufacturing technology, duplex stainless steel has always been one of the strategic products of TISCO. The thick pipes for offshore platform projects are used to be welded pipes, rather than seamless ones, which are much safer but have never been applied in this sector due to the constriction from manufacturing capability and process technology, considering the super large diameter of the tube billets.
TISCO Technology Center led a team composed of related personnel from the Marketing Center, the Manufacturing Department and production plants, to contact with the client to understand the end use and specific requirements, which served as the base for the team to design the key processes including purity control in smelting, accurate chemical composition, big billet forging, heat treatment for structure adjustment and etc. After 3 month efforts, the duplex stainless steel tube billets with weight of 600 t and maximum diameter of 570mm, with globally widely accepted certificates from DNV and Nosork-M650, were successfully developed and filled the industrial gap. This achievement laid a solid foundation for the production of seamless pipes for offshore projects and was highly recognized by the client.
